Nestled into the Westchester hills, we take a first look at this architectural statement in the making.

Sam takes us behind the scenes in North Salem, where a striking steel-and-concrete ICF structure is emerging from the hillside - defined by bold cantilevered platforms and panoramic views.

Strength Meets Precision

Anchored by ultra-strong ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) walls - each XR35 block incorporating four inches of foam insulation on both sides of an eight-inch poured concrete core - the structure is engineered for exceptional durability and energy efficiency. Every level, from the ground floor to sections of the roof, will be formed in solid poured concrete, ensuring a rigid, thermally stable envelope built to last for generations.

As the Mountain House rises, Carbon’s team maintains continuous insulation throughout the structure, integrating precision connections between ICF components. This seamless approach eliminates weak points, optimizing the building’s performance against temperature shifts and environmental stress. The result is a structure that’s not only exceptionally strong, but also highly energy-efficient and acoustically insulated - a hallmark of Carbon’s resilient design philosophy.

Every Detail Matters

In this video, Sam joins our partners from Olson Kundig and OLA to explore a range of resinous gravels and aggregates - a crucial step in refining the material palette for the Mountain House.

Selecting the right materials is a continuous process of testing, refining, and tailoring. Every Carbon build is a fully bespoke creation - meticulously adapted to its environment and to the way its future owners will experience the home. At the Mountain House, that means materials and methods that echo the site’s natural drama while delivering performance at the highest standard.

The Journey Continues

Every Carbon home is a study in balance: between strength and elegance, innovation and craft. The Mountain House brings that philosophy to life. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes insights as the project progresses.
